About
Southern Wild Forest School is located in Memphis, TN, and takes place on 12 beautiful acres of private land. Our land has much to offer: trails, woods, water-- lots of space for your child(ren) to learn and grow in nature. Our students also regularly visit other natural sites around the Memphis area in order to further explore our local landscape and wildlife.
SWFS was born out of a desire to create a space where children could explore, create, play, and learn in the natural world. With the increase in exposure and access to technology, more time spent indoors, and other challenges of modern living, many parents want to give their children a childhood of simplicity, wonder, and tangible experience, but might not know how. We believe that humans are not inherently apart from nature, but through changes in culture and technology, have grown far less comfortable within it. Forest school allows children to cultivate a sense of belonging within the greater cycles of the earth, time, and humanity. Our forest school is secularly-based, inclusive, and welcoming of all people.
SWFS offers children and their parents a container to create a deeper relationship with the rhythms, seasons, processes, and mysteries of the Southern Wild.
